Total MBBS Seats in Deemed Universities 2025 

There are approximately 11,200 MBBS seats in Deemed Medical Colleges recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC). These seats are available to students based on their NEET UG 2025 score, and are offered through the centralized MCC counselling process. 

Overall Seat Division: 

  • Management Quota Seats: ~9,381 seats (approx. 85%) 

  • NRI Quota Seats: ~1,298 seats (approx. 15%) 

  • Minority Quota Seats: ~260+ seats (for Jain and Muslim candidates)

Quota-wise Classification of Seats 

1. Management Quota 

These seats are open to all Indian citizens who qualify NEET UG. There are no domicile restrictions. The cutoffs for these seats vary by college and are usually lower than those of top government institutions. 

2. NRI Quota 

NRI quota seats are reserved for: 

  • Candidates holding NRI or OCI status 

  • Indian nationals sponsored by NRI relatives 

The NRI quota often comes with a higher fee structure. Candidates must submit proper documentation, including passport and sponsorship proof. 

3. Minority Quota 

Available only in specific Muslim and Jain Minority Deemed Universities, these seats are reserved for students belonging to that community. A valid community certificate is required. These colleges include: 

  • Yenepoya Medical College (Muslim Minority) 

  • SBKS Medical Institute (Jain Minority) 

  • Hamdard Institute of Medical Sciences (Muslim Minority) 

If Minority or NRI seats go vacant, they are converted into Management Quota seats during Mop-Up and Stray Vacancy rounds.

  • Kasturba Medical College, Manipal: Offers 250 MBBS seats in total. Of these, 212 are for Management Quota and 38 are reserved for NRI candidates.

  • SBKS Medical Institute & Research Centre, Vadodara: As a Jain Minority college, it offers 250 seats, with 106 under the Jain Minority quota, 107 under Management quota, and 37 for NRI. 

  • Hamdard Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi: A Muslim Minority college offering 150 MBBS seats, with 75 for Muslim Minority students, 52 under Management, and 23 for NRI. 

  • Yenepoya Medical College, Mangalore: Offers 250 seats. The division includes 79 for Muslim Minority candidates, 133 under Management quota, and 38 for NRI quota. 

  • Amrita School of Medicine, Kochi: Offers 150 seats with 127 allocated to Management Quota and 23 reserved for NRI candidates. 

  • Sri Ramachandra Medical College, Chennai: One of the leading private institutions, offers 250 seats with 212 for Management and 38 for NRI. 

  • DY Patil Medical College, Pune: Offers 250 MBBS seats, of which 213 are Management and 37 are NRI seats. 

  • Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences, Karad: Has a total of 250 seats, broken down into 213 Management and 37 NRI quota seats.

The state contributes nearly 2,850 MBBS seats through institutions like DY Patil (Pune, Kolhapur, Navi Mumbai), Bharati Vidyapeeth, MGM, and Krishna Karad. 

Tamil Nadu (13 Colleges) 

With approximately 3,000 seats, Tamil Nadu has top-rated institutions like Sri Ramachandra, Saveetha, SRM, and Meenakshi Medical College. 

Puducherry (4 Colleges) 

Puducherry contributes 800+ seats through institutions like MGMCRI, Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth, SLIMS, and Vinayaka Missions.

These seats are primarily reserved for minority students. In case of unfilled minority seats, they are opened to general candidates in later counselling rounds. 

 

Seat Conversion Rules 

  • If NRI quota seats remain unfilled, they convert into Management quota seats during Mop-Up or Stray Vacancy rounds. 

  • Minority seats are first allotted to respective community students; unfilled seats convert to general category.
